Synergy with chemotherapy and radiotherapy

Given the distinct and different mechanisms of action of MabThera compared with standard chemotherapeutic agents, combination therapy with these agents is feasible and may be synergistic. In addition, MabThera may be effective in patients who have failed to respond to chemotherapy or who have relapsed after chemotherapy.

In-vitro data confirm that MabThera may potentiate the cytotoxic activity of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in sensitive and resistant B-cell lines1,2,3,4. This reversal of multidrug resistance was found to be specific to MabThera and did not occur with other anti-CD20 antibodies tested5.
