Active ingredient
MabThera consists of a human IgG1 kappa constant region, with a variable region isolated from a murine anti-CD20 antibody. The variable murine regions are specific for the CD20 antigen, while the human component allows effective use of complement and cell-mediated lysis mechanisms in vivo; this means that MabThera can effectively eradicate lymphoma cells in a variety of ways. MabThera has low potential for immunogenicity and resultant production of anti-MabThera antibodies, because the majority of the molecule is of human origin1.
MabThera is produced by Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells in suspension. The antibody is purified by chromatography with specific viral inactivation and removal procedures, and is supplied as a sterile, clear, colourless, preservative-free liquid concentrate for intravenous infusion.
